DETROIT (WXYZ) — A boil water advisory has been issued in downtown Detroit after a water main break.
An official with the Detroit Water and Sewerage Department says the advisory will likely stay in effect through Thursday, due to thorough testing of the area.
The area near the River Place Condos is flooded on Larned at St. Maron Place. That’s between St. Aubin and Mt. Elliott. Crews are saying a 42-inch pipe broke.
The boundaries for the water main break are defined by the the Lodge Service Drive to the west, Mt. Elliot to the east, I-75 to the north and the Detroit River to the south.
Multiple viewers called 7 Action News to say water was running for hours early Sunday.
The boil water advisory is affecting the Detroit Auto Show at Cobo Center, officials say. As a precaution, and to comply with the advisory, all water fountains at Cobo Center have been shut off. According to a post on the Cobo Center Facebook page, bottled water is available to all visitors on the concourse level of the building at the Cork & Grind and Go Natural restaurants.
The Detroit Water and Sewerage Department says nobody should be without water during repairs, but people in the area should boil their water as a precaution.
Detroit water customers who experience low pressure or other service issues are encouraged to call DWSD at 313-267-8000.
