Rudy Harper

Hello everyone! Thank you for checking out my biography. I joined the 7 Action News Team in April 2019 and am eager to get to know you and tell your stories of the Motor City.

My professional journey has taken me from Joplin, Missouri to Mobile, Alabama to Kansas City, Missouri and now, “D-Town!” I know the best stories are those about real people from the communities in which I live and work. That is why I chose to make my home in downtown Detroit, central to all the vibrant communities that make up the metropolitan area.

One of my favorite reports was a feature story about a Special Olympics Flag Football Team from Pittsburg . . . Kansas, population 20, 366. I still hear from the team to this day and the report was recognized for an award from the Kansas Association of Broadcasters.

I hail from the St. Louis suburb of St. Charles and graduated from Park University in Kansas City, where I was a student athlete. College basketball taught me to never give up and to play hard the whole game. You can count on me to bring that same determination when reporting for you.

Travel is my guilty pleasure. My most recent trips include stops in Havana, Cuba, Punta Cana, Dominican Republic and Cancun, Mexico. If you see me out and about across the metro area, say hello or feel free to reach out to me at or on Twitter (@RudyHarperWXYZ) and Facebook (rharpertv).
