DETROIT (WXYZ) - Meet Heather Nabozny. The head groundskeeper for the Detroit Tigers is a Michigan State grad who is responsible for the beautiful grass you'll see on the Comerica Park field this season.
Nabozny takes her responsibility very seriously and it shows. Even though Detroit's seen snow in the past week, the Comerica Park field is lush and green.
"Opening Day comes whether we're ready for it or not," she explains.
The team's chief groundskeeper says that properly taking care of the field involves some really science. Her grounds team does tissue tests on the grass and they pay very close attention to temperature as they mow and fertilize.
Does Nabozny's own home have a lawn as nice as what we see at Comerica Park? Nope. Right now, she says it's still brown.
