The Tigers have placed catcher James McCann on the 10-day disabled list after he was hit by a pitch in the hand during Thursday night's game.
McCann suffered a laceration on his left hand and received five stitches after the game.
The team has called up John Hicks to replace McCann for Friday's double header in Chicago against the White Sox.
Ausmus told reporters he doesn't imagine the injury will take more than 10 days to heal.
