(WXYZ) -- All around the country, college basketball teams are playing exhibition games to benefit various charitable causes.
On Sunday, Oakland and Michigan State hosted games of their own to benefit American Red Cross hurricane relief efforts.
Oakland's game at the on-campus O'Rena drew 1,000 spectators and raised over $3,500.
"Every little bit helps," said Oakland head coach Greg Kampe. "While it's not $1.7 million, it's still pretty good."
Michigan State packed up its floor and baskets and headed west to Grand Rapids to face Georgia in front of 10,699 fans at Van Andel Arena.
That game, an 80-68 Spartans victory, raised nearly $340,000.
"Life is about giving back," said Michigan State head coach Tom Izzo. "Today we got to be a part of maybe helping some people who...we haven't had as tough a time as they've had."
Izzo praised the Michigan State and Grand Rapids communities for their coordination and support in getting Sunday's game put together on less than a week's notice.
"It's good for our city, it's good for our state, and probably would be a lot better for our country if we'd all start rallying together. Because to do that in that short a period of time is amazing."
