(WXYZ) — Detroit City FC announced Monday that its spring season has been canceled amid the coronavirus pandemic.

The National Independent Soccer Association announced the cancellation of the spring season. The league is planning on moving forward with the fall season starting in August, and is working on a potential summer season.

For the women's season, it is still currently delayed but not canceled.

With this season’s move to a professional men’s team and the addition of our women’s team, this was going to be a big year for DCFC, and we, like you, are incredibly disappointed but know that this is the right thing to do," a letter to fans reads. "Detroit City FC is committed to taking the field in 2020 as soon as it is deemed safe for our teams, staff, fans, and the broader community. We are continuing to build out contingencies with our medical provider, local health officials, and fellow teams, for a return to play as soon as this evolving situation will permit."

Those with tickets to canceled matches will receive a credit at this time, and those with season tickets are asked for patience over the coming weeks as they get a clearer picture of how the year looks.

"We greatly appreciate your continued support during these trying times. On behalf of the players, staff, and owners of the club, just know we can’t wait for the day we can safely return to Keyworth and throw a party for the ages," the letter said.
