Detroit Tigers take to the field at Comerica Park to gear up for shortened baseball season

DETROIT (WXYZ) — The day we feared would never come is here! After Major League Baseball cut spring training short in March and indefinitely postponed Opening Day, the Detroit Tigers are back at Comerica Park playing baseball!

7 Action News Reporter Jennifer Ann Wilson is covering Day 1 of Tigers’ Summer Camp as they gear up to get back in the game.

The COVID-19 pandemic cut the pre-season short and canceled the March 30th Opening Day.

After 3 months, the Detroit Tigers are preparing for a shortened 60 game season that begins with a July 23rd Opening Day.

Players have been conditioning individually since March.

The crack-of-the-bat signals the sound of summer in Detroit!

The team will be allowed 4 additional players on the new Opening Day roster - 30 in total.

Players and anyone else who enters Comerica Park will all undergo health screenings and have their temperature taken, anyone with a fever will be sent home immediately.

Fans are not allowed to attend games in person.
