ESPN is reporting that Detroit Lions defensive tackle Ndamakung Suh will appeal the $100,000 fine, arguing that it is excessive.
The fine, which was levied for an illegal block on Vikings center John Sullivan during the season opener, is the largest in NFL history without the player also being suspended without pay.
Suh was flagged for hitting Sullivan in the legs during De'Andre Levy's interception return in the second quarter of the Lions 34-24 win over Minnesota.
Levy's touchdown was nullified and the Lions incurred a 15-yard penalty from the spot of the fumble. Suh has reportedly apologized to the team.
