After nine seasons with the Detroit Lions, wide receiver Calvin Johnson announced he was considering retiring on Jan. 6.

In a statement, Johnson, 30, said, "Like many players at this stage of their career, I am currently evaluating options for my future. I would expect to have a decision regarding this matter in the not-too-distant future."

Former Lions wide receiver Herman Moore was on the Suburban Ford 7 Sports Cave on Sunday and discussed the possibility of Johnson retiring.

"It's not going to be about whether or not coach Caldwell tries to entice him to come back or his teammates, thi sis going to be a strictly Calvin Johnson decision," Moore said.

In October, Johnson broke Moore's record for career catches in October, and already holds records for receiving yards, receiving touchdowns and 100-yard games.

"I don't see him coming back unless he feels he can be a major contributor to that offense," Moore added. "My gut is that I don't see him coming back."
