Report: Titans offered Whisenhunt more money than the Lions

(WXYZ) - Ken Whisenhunt joined the Titans on Monday.

For a variety of reasons, he chose Tennessee over the Lions.

Now, a report from ESPN dives further into one key reason. According to Titans beat writer Paul Kuharsky, the Titans offered Whisenhunt $1 million more annually than the Lions.

The report says Tennessee outbid Detroit, ultimately leading to the 51-year old's decision to join Tennessee.

Whisenhunt spent the 2013 season as San Diego's offensive coordinator after spending 2007-12 as head coach in Arizona.

Tuesday, the Lions hired Jim Caldwell as their 26th head coach. He spent the 2013 season as the offensive coordinator in Baltimore.
