(WXYZ) — Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer extended the stay-at-home order until May 1 on Thursday.
With the weather warming up, she was asked if golf would be allowed to restart during the extension, and if there would be any modifications to the order.
The quick answer: No. Whitmer said that golf, and landscaping, are not critical infrastructure.
"They are not necessary to sustain life. To be candid, just by engaging in it can expose people to risk, serious risk," Whitmer said.
She said that when people make tee times, you have to show up, pay someone, get your tee time, maybe hand someone your clubs, get in and out of a cart, and more.
"There are people who have to get up and go to work for your recreation," she said, adding that people can make it another three weeks.
On Tuesday, golf associations in Michigan sent a letter to Whitmer and AG Dana Nessel asking them to consider golf a recreational activity.
