Longtime Team Penske IndyCar driver Helio Castroneves will be leaving the racing series in 2018 and joining Team Penske's new IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship team, the team announced on Wednesday.

Castroneves will join Juan Pablo Montoya and Dan Cameron to race one of two Acura ARX-05 Daytona Prototype International entries next year. The other team has yet to be announced.

Team Penske said he will still compete in the 2018 Indianapolis 500. He is a 3-time winner.

“Helio has been a valuable member of Team Penske for almost 20 years and we are looking forward to sharing more success together,” Roger Penske said in a release.

Castroneves has spent 18 years with Team Penske's IndyCar program and has 30 wins and 50 pole positions.

“I’ve been fortunate to achieve a lot of my personal goals with Team Penske over the years,” Castroneves said. “Helping Roger, the team and everyone with Acura start this program and build it from the ground up will be another big challenge and a great opportunity in my career."

Castroneves will return for the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix as it is once again on the IMSA schedule for 2018.
