Detroit Red Wings Captain Henrik Zetterberg is unlikely to play out the entirety of his contract, according to a report from the Detroit Free Press.

Zetterberg, 36, has played his 14-year career with the Red Wings, and is signed for through the 2020-21 season.

The Free Press had an interview with Swedish media translated, where Zetterberg said he believes he has two years left.

"The only reason we signed such a long contract back in 2009 was because of the cap," Zetterberg said in the interview translated by the Free Press. "It's pretty obvious, you try to fool the system. In reality, I think I have two years left. I don't think I will play through the 2020-2021 season."

He has played in 1,000 NHL games and despite being one of the oldest players, Zetterberg was the team's point leader in 2016-17 with 68. That is 20 points more than the second highest point-getter.

In the interview, Zetterberg also said he plans to move back home to his native Sweden after he retires.

"After 15 years Detroit is also home, I have a lot of friends there, but I miss Sweden more and more," he added.
