Patrick Kanes time in Detroit is over. The legendary forward has signed a two-year deal with the Chicago Blackhawks.

Kane spent the last three seasons with the Red Wings, signing with Detroit following hip surgery. He had an immediate impact for the team.

In his three seasons, he had 106 goals and 161 assists, and was welcomed with open arms. Now, Kane returns to the team where he started his career and spent 16 seasons.

The contract is worth $8 million a year.

The Detroit Red Wings released their 2026-27 regular season schedule, the team's 101st season in the NHL.

Detroit will open the regular season at home on Oct. 6 in an Original Six matchup against the New York Rangers.

The NHL goes to an 84-game season this year, expanding the season by two games. They'll have 28 games against the Atlantic Division, three games each against the eight Metropolitan Division teams, and two games each against the 16 Western Conference teams.

Detroit said that of the 42 home games, 21 are scheduled for weekends seven Fridays, 10 Saturdays and four Sundays. October and January have the most home games with nine each.

NHL free agency officially kicked off on Wednesday afternoon with teams beginning to sign players ahead of the 2026-27 season.

Detroit has several players that they can re-sign, and there are also questions around whether or not the team will trade Dylan Larkin.

Trade with Vegas

Detroit acquired forward Keegan Kolesar from the Vegas Golden Knights in exchange for a 2029 third-round pick and 2027 seventh-round pick.

The 29-year-old played in all 82 games with Vegas last season, scoring 6 goals and totaling 17 points, with 67 shots and 270 hits. He also had 55 penalty minutes.

Detroit adds a goaltender

Detroit signed goaltender Daniil Tarasov to a one-year deal, with the expectation that he'll replace Cam Talbot as the backup to John Gibson.

The 27-year-old appeared in 33 games for the Florida Panthers last season and started 31. He had a 13-15 record with a 3.05 goals against average and .895 save percentage.

Red Wings sign Viktor Arvidsson

Detroit has signed winger Viktor Arvidsson to a two-year deal worth $5 million a year, according to multiple reports.

The 33-year-old was with the Boston Bruins last season and had 25 goals and 29 assists in 69 games. He was a +20 on the ice.

Detroit re-signs Carter Mazur

Detroit re-signed forward Carter Mazur to a two-year deal with an average of $875,000 per year. The 24-year-old from Jackson appeared in eight games for the Red Wings last season.

With the Grand Rapids Griffins, Mazur appeared in 16 games and had 11 goals and five assists. During the Calder Cup Playoffs, he had five goals and an assist in eight games.

Detroit signs players to two-way contracts

The Red Wings signed forwards Cameron Butler and Wilmer Skoog to one-year, two-way contracts.

Butler, 24, spent part of last season with the Iowa Wild in the AHL and had one goal and 20 penalty minutes in 16 games.

Skoog, 26, played 61 games for the Charlotte Checkers last season and had 18 goals, 19 assists and a +12 rating. He made his NHL debut with the Florida Panthers and had two assists and a +3 rating in three games.

The Detroit Red Wings traded goaltender Sebastian Cossa to the Utah Mammoth in order to move into the first round of the NHL Draft.

With the 23rd pick they acquired from Utah, the Red Wings selected forward J.P. Hurlbert, who played for the Kamloops Blazers in the WHL.

Hurlbert, 18, is committed to play for the University of Michigan next season. He had 42 goals and 55 assists in 68 games last season.

Cossa, 23, has been the star goaltending prospect for the Red Wings. He was drafted 15th overall in 2021 and has played for the Grand Rapids Griffins.

Former Detroit Red Wings captain Henrik Zetterberg has missed out on getting in the Hockey Hall of Fame once again.

On Tuesday, the hall of fame announced its six inductees for 2026. In the player category, it's Patrice Bergeron, Cindy Curley, Carey Price, Keith Tkachuk and Pekka Rinne. Brian Burke was inducted in the builder category.

This was the fifth year that Zetterberg was eligible for the Hockey Hall of Fame. He has 337 goals and 623 assists in 1,082 career games. He also is part of the "Triple Gold Club" which is a winner of the Stanley Cup, Olympic Gold and World Championship.

The Hockey Hall of Fame Selection Committee features 18 people appointed by the board of directors. A candidate must appear on at least 75% (14) of the ballots.

Chris Osgood also missed out on the hall of fame once again.

The Gordie Howe Bridge is set to open this Friday, connecting Windsor and Detroit with a new international crossing more than a decade in the making and no one is looking forward to it more than the family of the man it honors.

Gordie Howe, known as "Mr. Hockey" and Detroit's No. 9, died June 10, 2016, at the age of 88. The bridge bearing his name will stand as a landmark between the two countries he called home.

7 News Detroit's Tony Geftos sat down with Gordie's youngest son, Dr. Murray Howe, 65, a radiologist for ProMedica Health System. They talked about what the opening means for his father's legacy.

"When I think of the bridge, I just start to smile because I think of how fun my dad was and how he made everybody's day, and I feel like that bridge will help generate a whole new generation of people that want to do that," Murray Howe said.

Dr. Murray Howe is often asked about his late father, one of the greatest hockey players of all time. He even wrote a book about their relationship: "Nine Lessons I Learned From My Father."

"Completely a labor of love, and I still refer to the book a lot because it just helps remind me of how I should be," Howe said.

Gordie Howe was born in Canada and played for the Detroit Red Wings. His namesake bridge is now about to bring those two countries together in a tangible way.

"The largest compliment, I think, one of the largest compliments you can give to a human being is to name a structure that large and is going to exist for 125 years or more," Dr. Howe said.

Gordie Howe was still alive when the bridge was announced. Murray Howe recalled his father's reaction.

"Yeah, he said, 'Well, that sounds pretty good to me.' You know, it was classic for him because he, again, he was so humble," Dr. Howe said.

When the ribbon is cut this Friday, Murray Howe says he and the rest of the family will be there to watch his father's legacy transition from legendary hockey player to a Detroit-Windsor landmark.

"It's going to make the Detroit skyline. It's just going to beautify that skyline and set it, you know, apart, as when you see that, you'll say, 'Wow, that's Detroit.' You're going to have a beautiful view, and for everyone to be able to ride their bikes or walk or run across that bridge, that's going to be super special. It's going to make memories for decades and decades," Dr. Howe said.

As for what people will call it, Murray Howe already has an answer.

"He's dad to me, but I'm not going to call that bridge The Dad; it's going to be The Gordie," Dr. Howe said.

Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin has requested a trade by submitting a three-team list of desired destinations, a person familiar with discussions confirmed to The Associated Press on Monday.

The person spoke to the AP on the condition of anonymity because talks are private. The Detroit Free Press first reported the development earlier in the day.

Larkin has a full no-trade clause as part of his contract, and his list was limited to being dealt to Vegas, Minnesota and Florida. He has five years left on an eight-year, $69.6 million contract, which carries an annual salary cap hit of $8.7 million.

The 29-year-olds trade demand comes after completing his 11th season in Detroit, and 10th straight without a playoff berth. The Red Wings decade-long postseason drought now stands as the NHLs longest active run after the Buffalo Sabres qualified for the playoffs for the first time in 15 years this season.

The Red Wings faltered down the stretch in becoming the NHLs second team to have 69 points through 53 games only to miss the playoffs.

From Waterford, Michigan, Larkin enjoyed success in his Olympic debut, by winning a gold medal representing the U.S. at the Milan Cortina Games in February.

The challenge for Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman is working out a deal with any of the three teams, who each are projected to be in the bottom half of the NHL in having $15.2 million or less in cap space available entering next season, according to spotrac.com.

And they include the Golden Knights, who rank 31st among the NHL's 32 teams in currently having just $4.6 million of space available.

It's unclear whether Larkin would be open to potentially expanding his list.

Larkin has spent his entire career in the Detroit area. He played collegiately at Michigan, and was selected by Detroit with the 15th pick in the 2014 draft. Hes a six-time 30-goal scorer, and coming off a season in which he had 67 points, including a career-best 34 goals in 74 games.

Detroit Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin has reportedly requested to be traded. That's according to SportsNet's Elliotte Friedman, and later reported by The Athletic's Max Bultman.

In 2023, the Red Wings signed the forward to an 8-year, $69.6 million contract. According to Friedman, Larkin has a full no-trade clause this season and next season.

The 29-year-old has spent his entire career with the Red Wings and had 34 goals and 33 assists in 74 games last season.

Detroit is coming off another year of missing the postseason, and last October, Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman said he likes to think that they have a great relationship.

"Because no one will talk, we can only guess at the rationale, but there appear to be two critical factors: Detroits inability to make the playoffs, and a somewhat frosty relationship between the captain and the teams top hockey executive," Friedman wrote.

Detroit Red Wings forward Alex DeBrincat is having the best season of his career, and scored his 40th goal of the season on Thursday night.

The 28-year-old Farmington Hills native has played in all 79 games for Detroit this season. His goal came on the power play in the first period, giving Detroit a 1-0 lead over the Philadelphia Flyers.

According to the Red Wings, DeBrincat became the fourth Red Wings player over the last 20 years to have 40 or more goals in a single season. The last time it happened was Marian Hossa in the 2008-09 season with 40 goals.

Before that, it was Henrik Zetterberg with 43 goals in 2007-2008 and Brendan Shanahan with 40 goals in 2005-06.

DeBrincat is entering the final year of his contract with Detroit next season. He joined the Red Wings in 2023-24 and has improved every season while playing in every game.

This season, he has 40 goals and 43 assists for 83 points and is a +11 on the ice. The 40 goals are the second-most he's had in a season and his 43 assists are the most. The most goals he had in a season were 41, with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2018-19 and 2021-22.

DETROIT (AP) Dylan Larkin had three goals and an assist as the Detroit Red Wings kept their playoff chances alive with a 6-3 win over the Philadelphia Flyers on Thursday night.

Moritz Seider had a career-high five points with a goal and four assists while Patrick Kane had a goal and two assists.

The win gives the Red Wings 91 points with three games left. They trail the Ottawa Senators by three points for the second Eastern Conference wildcard, and the Senators hold the regulation-wins tiebreaker.

The Flyers, who had won three straight, are still on 92 points, one ahead of the New York Islanders for third place in the Metro.

Porter Martone had a goal and an assist for Philadelphia and has six points, including four assists, in his first six NHL games.

Alex DeBrincat put the Red Wings ahead with a power-play goal at 2:29 of the first period. DeBrincat took a pass from Lucas Raymond in front of the net and flipped a back-hand shot over the goalie's right shoulder for his 40th goal. He's the first Red Wing with a 40-goal season since Marian Hossa did it in 2008-09.

Martone helped the Flyers tie the game at 13:24, firing a low shot that Christian Dvorak deflected past John Gibson.

Detroit went on a 5-on-3 power play in the first 30 seconds of the second period and Seider made it 2-1 at 32 seconds, blowing a slap shot past Dan Vladar for his 10th goal of the season.

Larkin then made it 3-1 at 1:50, taking a pass from Kane and beating Vladar with a wrist shot from the low slot.

The Red Wings gave Philadelphia a chance to get back into the game, taking a pair of penalties that allowed the Flyers 28 seconds of their own 5-on-3 advantage.

Detroit, though, killed the first penalty before Larkin scored a shorthanded goal to make it 4-1 at 4:56 - his third point of the period. That brought Samuel Ersson into the game to replace Vladar, who made four saves on eight shots.

Martone pulled the Flyers within 4-2 at 9:25 with a power-play goal.

Moments later, Gibson left the game for Cam Talbot, possibly due to a collision with Owen Tippett early in the period.

Luke Glendening finished the scoring against his former team at 18:09.

The Detroit Red Wings are on the verge of missing the playoffs for the 10th straight season after nine losses in the month of March.

Detroit has just four games left in the regular season and has 89 points before facing Philadelphia on Thursday night at home.

According to the NHL Playoff Status website, Detroit has just an 8% chance of making the playoffs with the second wild card. The Ottawa Senators, which currently sit in the second wild card spot, have a 54% chance of holding onto the spot.

On top of needing wings, Detroit will need some help from the Ottawa Senators and Columbus Blue Jackets. The Senators have 92 points and face the Florida Panthers on Friday, while the Blue Jackets face the Buffalo Sabres. Columbus has 90 points after a shootout win over the Red Wings on Tuesday.

Ottawa owns the tiebreaker over Detroit, but Detroit has the tiebreaker over Ottawa.

The Eastern Conference is also strong, as the New York Islanders and Washington Capitals both have 89 points, tied with the Red Wings.

DETROIT (AP) Zach Werenski scored in the shootout to lead the Columbus Blue Jackets over the Detroit Red Wings 4-3 on Tuesday night, ending a six-game skid.

Adam Fantilli tied the game with 17 seconds left, Danton Heinen also scored and Werenski also added a goal and an assist in regulation. Jet Greaves stopped 34 shots and assisted on Werenski's goal for his first career point.

Werenski notched his 26th multipoint game of the year, setting a single-season record for the Blue Jackets.

Justin Faulk scored twice, Dylan Larkin added one goal, and John Gibson had 32 saves for the Red Wings.

Red Wings center Michael Rasmussen left in the second period with a lower-body injury and did not return.

The Blue Jackets blocked 21 shots and the Red Wings blocked 25.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) Patrick Kane scored a pivotal goal in the same building where he scored a Stanley Cup Final winner, Alex DeBrincat scored two goals and Lucas Raymond had one to lead the Detroit Red Wings past the Philadelphia Flyers 4-2 on Thursday night.

The Red Wings snapped a points tie in the chase for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. Detroit has 88 points to 86 for the Flyers through 75 games. The Red Wings are now tied in points with Ottawa, but the Senators have more regulation wins if it comes to a tiebreaker.

Kane's Game 6 overtime goal helped Chicago beat the Flyers in 2010 for the Stanley Cup. The Flyers never recovered, winning only three playoff series since and lost a swing matchup in a game that could decide if they return to the postseason.

Travis Konecny scored his 27th goal in the third to make it 3-2 and give the Flyers some needed hope at a comeback.

It just wasn't enough.

The Flyers beat Detroit 5-3 last weekend in a game where Red Wings goalie John Gibson was pulled. Gibson was back in net for this one his 13th straight start - and rebounded with 32 saves.

DeBrincat scored first for the Red Wings who entered last in the NHL with only 43 first-period goals thanks to an assist from Kane.

Tyson Foerster scored the tying goal only 31 seconds into the second and raised the Flyers crowd to their feet.

Foersters season was widely considered done following an injury in early December. The 24-year-old Foerster, who had a career-best 25 goals last season, missed the last 49 games but had recovered well enough to the point where the Flyers started to ponder a late-season return.

Foerster had team-high 10 goals at the time of his injury and his lethal shot was considered a boon to the stretch run when he returned to practice about three weeks ago.

Raymond was left alone at the goal line and fired his 25th goal past Samuel Ersson with 1:31 left in the second for the tying goal.

DeBrincat made it 4-2 with his 39th in the third.

Porter Martone, who signed his entry-level contract on Sunday, made his home debut for the Flyers after playing his first game Tuesday at Washington.

Goaltender Trey Augustine will report to the Grand Rapids Griffins after the Detroit Red Wings signed the 2023 draft pick to a three-year entry-level contract.

Augustine, 21, recently completed his junior season at Michigan State University and had a 24-9-1 record with a 2.11 goals-against average, .029 save percentage and three shutouts for the Spartans.

The South Lyon native has been named Big Ten Goaltender of the year for two straight years and was named among 10 finalists for the 2026 Hobey Baker Award, which is given to the top player in college hockey.

His time in Grand Rapids for the rest of the season will be an amateur tryout.

Augustine has also spent time with the U.S. National Team Development Program and won a gold medal with Team USA at the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship, where he had a 4-1 record with a 2.52 goals-against average and .917 save percentage.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) Alex DeBrincats power-play goal scored 4:02 in sparked Detroit's three-goal first period, and the Red Wings rolled to a 5-2 win over the Atlantic Division-leading Buffalo Sabres on Friday night.

Marco Kasper, Lucas Raymond, Jacob Bernard-Docker and Patrick Kane, with an empty-netter, also scored. Detroit, coming off a 3-2 loss to Ottawa on Tuesday, snapped a two-game skid and moved into a tie in points with the Senators for ninth place in the Eastern Conference standings and a point back of the New York Islanders.

John Gibson stopped 28 shots.

Tage Thompson registering his 400th career point and Rasmus Dahlin scored and Buffalo dropped to 0-1-2 -- its longest skid since losing three straight in regulation in early December. Alex Lyon made 15 saves and dropped to 6-1-1 since returning from the NHLs Olympic break.

The Sabres came out flat and undisciplined and wound up trailing 3-0 with 3:54 left in the opening period when Marco Kasper converted his own rebound in front.

Detroits first two goals came on the power play.

DeBrincat opened the scoring by converting a rebound in front five seconds after Josh Norris was penalized for high sticking. Raymond scored with Logan Stanley in the box for interference, and was set up by Moritz Seider leaping at the blue line to bat down Ryan McLeods clearing attempt.

Detroit entered the day scoring an NHL-low 40 goals in the first period.

Thompson cut the lead to 3-1 with a one-timer 5:35 into the second period.

Gibson made a key save with Detroit up and 5:21 left in the first period. Laying on his side in the crease, the goalie lifted his left pad to stop Dahlins shot from the slot.

DETROIT (AP) Carter Yakemchuk scored a second-period goal and also had an assist in his NHL debut as the streaking Ottawa Senators edged the Detroit Red Wings 3-2 on Tuesday night.

Yakemchuk, the No. 7 overall pick of the 2024 draft, had been playing for the American Hockey Leagues Belleville Senators. He was called up earlier in the day with defensemen Thomas Chabot, Dennis Gilbert, Nick Jensen, Jake Sanderson and Lassi Thomson sidelined by injuries.

Yakemchuk, a 20-year-old defenseman from Alberta, had 10 goals in 50 games with Belleville.

Brady Tkachuk scored his 20th goal of the season for the Senators, who have won four straight and nine of their last 11 games. Lars Eller scored the other goal for the Senators. Linus Ullmark made 32 saves as the Senators continued their late push for an Eastern Conference playoff berth.

Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin scored on a third-period power play in his first game since missing seven games with a lower-body injury.

Dominik Shine had the other Red Wings goal while John Gibson stopped 18 shots. Detroit had won its three previous meetings with Ottawa this season.

Alex DeBrincat seemingly gave the Red Wings the lead late in the first period. His power-play goal was challenged by Ottawa and the officials ruled that Detroit was offside.

The Senators converted on a power play with 2:45 remaining in the period when Tkachuk tipped in Tim Stutzle's shot.

Yakemchuk scored at 9:28 of the second period. He skated in from the point to the right circle and beat Gibson on the glove side.

DETROIT (AP) Alex DeBrincat scored the go-ahead goal with 3:25 remaining and assisted on Detroit's two other goals, lifting the Red Wings to a 3-1 victory over the Montreal Canadiens on Thursday night.

DeBrincat scored the winner on a backhander after stealing the puck from defenseman Mike Matheson in the Canadiens zone. J.T. Compher scored earlier in the period and Andrew Copp added an empty-net goal with 16.8 seconds remaining.

John Gibson made 32 saves for the Red Wings, who won for the second straight game following a three-game losing streak. Detroit recorded back-to-back victories for the first time since a three-game winning streak in mid-January.

The Red Wings also won the season series, 2-1 and pulled even with the Canadiens in the Atlantic Division standings in the tight Eastern Conference playoff race.

Juraj Slafkovsky scored the Canadiens' goal on a second-period power play. Cole Caufield, who scored his 40th goal to beat Boston on overtime on Tuesday, assisted and Jakub Dobes made 25 saves.

Detroit captain Dylan Larkin missed his sixth consecutive game due to a lower-body injury.

Tampa Bay won for just the third time in the past nine games since the Olympic break to move within two points of Buffalo for the Atlantic Division lead. Brayden Point and Nikita Kucherov each had two assists.

J.T. Compher scored for the Red Wings, and John Gibson stopped 24 shots. Detroit has just one win the past five games (1-3-1), but remained in the No. 1 wild-card spot in the Eastern Conference standings.

Tampa Bay started the second period on a carryover power play and wasted little time taking advantage of it when Guentzel took a backhand pass from Kucherov and had a lane toward the net. Guentzel got to the middle of the zone and beat Gibson at 49 seconds.

The Lightning carried that one-goal lead into the third period and scored 1:35 into the period. A point shot from Brayden Point deflected off the shin pad of Ben Chiarot and then off the top of the skate of Goncalves.

Detroit countered on Alex DeBrincat's shot that tipped off the stick of Compher at 7:05. Goncalves regained the two-goal lead with another deflection of Point's shot with 3:38 to go. Guentzel added an empty-netter with 3:05 left.

SUNRISE, Fla. (AP) Carter Verhaeghe scored two goals in the final 90 seconds to rally the Florida Panthers to a 4-3 victory over the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday night.

With Florida goalie Daniil Tarasov on the bench, Verhaeghe scored with 1:30 remaining to make it 3-all.

Then, with 15 seconds left, Verhaeghe took a pass from Matthew Tkachuk and his shot went off the skate of Detroit defenseman Justin Faulk and past goalie Josh Gibson.

Vinnie Hinostroza had his first goal and assist for the Panthers, and Niko Mikkola also scored. Tarasov stopped 25 shots.

Faulk had a goal and an assist in his second game for the Red Wings, who also lost to the Panthers 3-1 at Detroit on Friday night. Faulk was acquired from St. Louis at Friday's trade deadline.

Patrick Kane and Marco Kasper also scored for the Red Wings, and Gibson made 24 saves.

Hinostroza scored at 9:48 of the first period to give Florida a 1-0 lead. He was acquired from Minnesota on Friday. Hinostroza played in nine games for Florida during the 2020-21 season but did not record a point.

The Red Wings took a 2-1 lead at 12:59 of the second when Faulk shoveled a backhanded shot from 30 feet out that went over Tarasov's shoulder.

Florida tied the score 2-2 at 5:10 of the third on Mikkolas bouncing shot from the blue line that deflected off Faulks skate before going past Gibson.

Just over a minute later, the Red Wings retook the lead on Kasper's breakaway.

Detroit center Andrew Copp left the game in the second period with an apparent left leg injury and did not return.

The Panthers played without their two leading scorers, Brad Marchand and Sam Reinhart.

DETROIT (AP) Matthew Tkachuk had his sixth career hat trick and the Florida Panthers beat the Detroit Red Wings 3-1 on Friday night to snap a four-game losing streak.

Eight points behind Boston for the final wild-card spot in the East, two-time defending champion Florida is in danger of becoming the first Cup-winning team to miss the playoffs the following season since Los Angeles in 2014-15.

Tkachuk had his first hat trick since Jan. 9, 2024, against St. Louis. He has eight goals in 16 games this season. He made his season debut Jan. 19 after recovering from offseason surgery to repair a torn adductor muscle and sports hernia.

Sergei Bobrovsky made 27 saves after the Panthers chose not to deal the 37-year-old goalie before the deadline Friday.

Alex DeBrincat scored his team-high 33rd goal for Detroit. John Gibson made 20 saves.

Detroit captain Dylan Larkin suffered an apparent leg injury when he fell awkwardly in the Florida zone midway through the third period. He skated slowly back to the boards and went immediately into the locker room.

Tkachuk scored 35 seconds into the third period on a power play to give the Panthers a 2-1 lead. Parked near the left goalpost, he redirected Sam Reinhart's shot from the left circle past Gibson.

Tkachuk added an empty-netter from his own zone with 1:52 left.

Welcome back, Mickey! Detroit Red Wings great Mickey Redmond returned to the broadcast booth on Wednesday for the first time since January.

Redmond underwent a cervical spine fusion to address chronic neck issues. He joined Brad Galli on 7 News Detroit at 6 PM from Little Caesars Arena.

DETROIT (AP) Tomas Hertl scored a power-play goal with 2:49 remaining in overtime and the Vegas Golden Knights rallied from a two-goal, third-period deficit to edge the Detroit Red Wings 4-3 on Wednesday night.

Hertl scored in front off a pass from Mitch Marner as Vegas snapped a three-game losing streak. Marner scored the tying goal with 3:24 left in regulation and had two assists.

Reilly Smith and Ivan Barbashev had the other goals for Vegas, which wrapped up a five-game road trip. Adin Hill made 23 saves in the Golden Knights' third game in four nights.

Simon Edvinsson and Alex DeBrincat each had a goal and an assist for Detroit, which is now 24-1-3 when leading after two periods. Emmitt Finnie also scored for the Red Wings and Cam Talbot made 21 saves.

Vegas' second-leading scorer, Mark Stone, missed the game due to an upper-body injury.

Vegas scored twice in the final nine minutes of regulation to erase a 3-1 deficit.

Barbashev scored on a rebound with 8:23 remaining in regulation after Detroit turned the puck over in its zone. Hertl passed the puck from behind the Red Wings net to Marner for the tying goal with 3:24 left.

Hertl was called for tripping with 2:23 left but Detroit failed to capitalize. The Red Wings were 0 for 4 on the power play.

The Wings led 3-1 after the first period. Smith and Finnie traded goals during the first six minutes. Edvinsson lifted a shot from the slot over Hill's left shoulder with 4:45 left to give Detroit the lead. DeBrincat whistled a shot past Hill's glove 59 seconds later.

The Detroit Red Wings have recalled goaltender Sebastian Cossa from the Grand Rapids Griffins following an injury to John Gibson earlier this week.

According to the team, Cossa was recalled under emergency conditions, and defender Erik Gustaffson was sent back down to Grand Rapids.

Cossa was named AHL Goaltender of the Month for December 2025 amid an incredible season from the Griffins. He was 7-0-1 with a 1.76 goals against average and a .929 save percentage in December.

This season, he's appeared in 31 games for the Griffins and has a 1.99 goals against average and .927 save percentage with 24 wins and five shutouts for Grand Rapids.

Gibson was pulled from Monday's game against the Nashville Predators after the first period. After the game, head coach Todd McClellan said that it appeared Gibson suffered a stinger after taking a shot up high at the end of the first period.

McLellan did give an update on Wednesday saying Gibson did skate in the morning and is feeling better, but is day-to-day. Cam Talbot will start in goal against the Golden Knights, with Cossa as a backup.

A new Detroit sports channel will broadcast Detroit Tigers games for 2026, and next season's Detroit Red Wings games.

Ilitch Sports + Entertainment announced the launch of Detroit SportsNet (DSN), which will be the year-round broadcast home for the Tigers and Red Wings.

The announcement comes after last month's news that the teams were leaving FanDuel Sports Network and its parent company, Main Street Sports Group.

DSN will be powered by MLB Media, and according to Ilitch Sports + Entertainment, discussions are ongoing with cable/satellite distributors.

According to the organization, there will be streaming options for fans, with a monthly cost of $19.99 or $189.99 annually. The channel will launch with the 2026 Detroit Tigers season, and then the 2026-27 Detroit Red Wings season will be broadcast on DSN.

Jason Benetti and Dan Dickerson will continue to lead the broadcasts for the Tigers, alongside analysts Andy Dirks and Dan Petry. Ken Daniels and Mickey Redmond will also remain with the Red Wings.

According to Ilitch Sports + Entertainment, more information is expected to be released in the future regarding channels and cable/satellite distributors.

Detroit Red Wings head coach Todd McLellan said the team believes Dylan Larkin will be back with the team in time for Thursday's game.

Larkin has been with Team USA following their Gold Medal victory over Canada on Sunday, and videos showed the team celebrating in Miami on Monday.

President Donald Trump also invited the team to visit the White House and attend the State of the Union on Tuesday night, and photos showed the team getting on a plane to Washington D.C. on Tuesday morning.

Danielle Bruce, a reporter for the Detroit Red Wings, posted a video of McLellan talking after Tuesday's practice about Larkin's return update.

"From what I understand, the president has invited that team to Washington and I believe that's where they're at. If all goes well, and weather, flights and everything cooperate, I believe he could sleep in his own bed late tonight," McLellan said in the video. "So we'll have him around the arena tomorrow, not sure if he'll skate, expect him to be on the plane and be a factor in Ottawa on Thursday night."

Lucas Raymond and Moritz Seider, the team's other two Olympians, returned to practice on Tuesday ahead of Thursday's game.

Detroit has just 24 games left in the season and currently sits third in the Atlantic division with 72 points, tied with the Montreal Canadiens and six points behind the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The Red Wings haven't played since a Feb. 4 loss to the Utah Mammoth. They face the Ottawa Senators on Thursday, Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday and Nashville Predators on Monday before returning home next Wednesday.

A budding star with the Detroit Red Wings in his fourth NHL season, Lucas Raymond has elevated his game to an entirely different level with Sweden at the Olympics.

Only Canada's Connor McDavid, widely considered the best hockey player on the planet, and Slovakia's Juraj Slafkovsky, the reigning MVP at the Games from his breakout performance in 2022, have more points.

Raymond has been not just producing but also winning puck battles, and veteran defenseman Victor Hedman said the 23-year-old forward put this team on his back at times.

Raymond also had an ill-timed slashing penalty in the waning minutes of the preliminary round finale against Slovakia, which led to a costly goal that dropped Sweden from what would have been a comfortable spot as the third seed all the way to seventh. That means an extra game Tuesday in the qualification playoffs just to get into the quarterfinals Wednesday, and it's a chance for Raymond to get some retribution and put the Swedes back on track.

We all saw that penalty in the end, coach Sam Hallam said. "He has to own it. We support him. We do things together as a team. We learn from it. Im pretty sure hes going to be fired up for the next game.

Raymond has a goal and four assists through three games, which is even better than his point-a-game pace with Detroit.

Hes a very talented player very good, very skilled," Sweden teammate Adrian Kempe said. He plays hard, and obviously we saw some of that today. Hes been great. Hes one of our best players. When you get to watch him in the NHL, as well, you see what he can do. Hes obviously a young, talented guy and a big (part of the) future for our country.

While Hedman and captain Gabriel Landeskog may be playing at the Olympics for the final time, Raymond is young enough to envision this being the first of a few, as long as the NHL continues to participate. There's already an agreement to go when it's in the French Alps in 2030.

Milan has been a showcase event so far for Raymond.

Ive felt better game by game," Raymond said. "Coming into a tournament, you want to perform. You want to play well for your team, and you want to be a good teammate. I think thats our entire teams mindset coming in, and were going to keep doing it that way.

Sweden struggled to get going early in its opener against host Italy, lost to archrival Finland and actually had its best game against Slovakia until Raymond's slash and Dalibor Dvorsky's goal cut the margin from three to two, changing the group winner despite a 5-3 victory.

You never want to put the guys in a spot like that, but it is what it is," Raymond said. "Well move on and get ready for the next game.
