Datsyuk, Helm, and Franzen practice, but may not be ready for Thursday

DETROIT - The ice was filled with familiar faces at Red Wings practice Tuesday.

Just don't count on those faces being on the ice in New York on Thursday. At least, not yet.

Pavel Datsyuk, Darren Helm, and Johan Franzen all returned to practice, but head coach Mike Babcock said he's not sure if any of them will play against the Rangers in Detroit's next game.

Franzen, who hasn't played since December 15 because of a concussion, said practice was "So-so."

"He did the same in LA," Babcock said, downplaying his participation.

"He's been dealing with the doctor on a daily basis, so we'll see how that goes."

Helm said he would need a few more practices under his belt before he starts thinking about returing from a groin injury. He was limited throughout the skate.

Henrik Zetterberg wasn't at the practice, but Ken Holland told multiple reporters he would play Thursday. When asked about his captain, Babcock responded quickly.

"Maintenance day. He's had a lot of them, eh?"
