Red Wings forward Gustav Nyquist could face a suspension for delivery a blow to the face of Jared Spurgeon in Detroit's 3-6 loss to the Minnesota Wild Sunday.
Nyquist has been offered and in-person hearing with NHL Player Safety which means he's probably facing at least a six game suspension
Nyquist was visibly frustrated as he battled with Spurgeon on the boards in the first period of Sunday's game. Nyquist raised his stick and hit Spurgeon on the face. Spurgeon left to be treated and later returned to the game. Nyquist received an immediate penalty but also stayed in the game.
Following the game, Nyquist told reporters he regretted the incident. He said he didn't mean to do it and aknowledged that it "looked bad", but added that he's happy Spurgeon is OK.
