With the Detroit Red Wings and Detroit Pistons winning games on Wednesday night, both teams are that much closer to clinching a spot in the playoffs.

For the Red Wings, the only thing they need to do to clinch a playoff spot is beat the Boston Bruins on Thursday night and they're in with at the least the third place spot in the Atlantic Division.

The team would extend its playoff streak to 25 consecutive seasons, the most in any of the four major professional sports leagues, and would likely play the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The magic number for the Detroit Pistons is 1, which means any combination of Pistons wins or Chicago Bulls losses will guarantee a playoff spot.

Detroit plays the Washington Wizards, who are also fighting for a playoff spot, Friday night at the Palace.

If the Pistons make the playoffs, they would likely play the first place Cleveland Cavaliers or second place Toronto Raptors.

The remaining schedules for both teams are:

Detroit Red Wings

  • Thursday, April 7 - Boston Bruins (away)
  • Saturday, April 9 - New York Rangers (away)

Detroit Pistons

  • Friday, April 8 - Washington Wizards (home)
  • Tuesday, April 12 - Miami Heat (home)
  • Wednesday, April 13 - Cleveland Cavaliers (away)
