(WXYZ) -- The Detroit Lions interviewed New Orleans Saints assistant GM and college scouting director Jeff Ireland Friday for their general manager vacancy.

Ireland is reportedly the last known Lions GM candidate to interview.

Ireland joined the Saints in 2015 following a short stint as a draft consultant for the Seattle Seahawks in 2014.

Saints head coach Sean Payton praised Ireland for his work overhauling the team's draft process upon his arrival.

"I think Jeff Ireland has done an outstanding job and how we look at players, all of that, was overhauled, if you will," Payton said in a 2017 interview. "And I think that the results are paying off, fortunately for us."

Ireland served as general manager of the Miami Dolphins from 2008 through 2013. He previously held various scouting roles with the Dallas Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs, and the NFL Combine.
