ALLEN PARK, Mich. — Darrell Bevell said Matthew Stafford has taken charge in leading the understanding of the new Lions offense.

Part of that acclamation is to forget the struggles last season.

"We kinda just really scrapped the whole thing," Bevell, the Lions offensive coordinator said. "I think all that's just so different. We're just focusing on what we're doing."

In 2018, Stafford came up short of the 4,000-yard mark for the first time since he was injured in 2010.

Bevell is his fourth offensive coordinator. He was with Seattle from 2011-17.

"I was always an admirer from afar. I think he plays a great game. Obviously we know about his ability to throw the ball," Bevell said of Stafford. "I was excited to get to know him on a personal level, get to know more about him."

They'll open training camp together this week after working closely in offseason programs.

"Sometimes those things that he's not comfortable with is because he hasn't done them enough," Bevell said. "And so we have to grow together."
