The Detroit Lions are allegedly pushing Calvin Johnson for a decision regarding his retirement, according to a report from Dave Birkett at The Detroit Free Press.

According to Birkett, they would like to have a decision by the start of NFL free agency which begins at 4 p.m. on Wednesday.

Birkett also wrote the team has told people they hope to know Johnson's plans within the next 24 hours.

In January, Johnson, 30, confirmed a report that he was considering retiring from the NFL. Just a few weeks ago, General Manager Bob Quinn said there was no timeline for Johnson to make a decision.

“I don’t have any expectations. We had a good conversation. He didn’t tell me if he was leaning one way or another. We’re giving him time to make that decision," Quinn said at the time.

Former Lions wide receiver Herman Moore was on the Suburban Ford 7 Sports Cave in January and said he believes Johnson will retire.

If Johnson does retire, it will add more than $11 million in cap space during the off season.
