Longtime Detroit broadcaster Jamie Samuelsen passes away at 48

(WXYZ) — Jamie Samuelsen, the co-host of 97.1 The Ticket's Jamie & Stoney Show, has passed away from colon cancer, his colleague Bob Wojnowski tweeted on Saturday. He was 48 years old.

Samuelsen had been with WXYT 97.1 The Ticket since 2012, and was a Detroit sports radio broadcaster for more than 20 years.

Samuelsen announcedon his morning show Monday he had been battling colon cancer for more than a year. During that announcement, he encouraged more people to get a colonoscopy.

“More people under the age of 50 are being diagnosed with colon cancer than ever before and colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths," he said. "Make sure you talk with your doctor — and get that colonoscopy."

Samuelsen is survived by his wife, Christy, and their three children.
