Oakland Hills hosted its second US Amateur in 15 years last week, showcasing golf in Michigan at the same time the course positioned itself again for a US Open.

We've heard the story before, but the fact is: Michigan is too rich in a love of golf to be without a event featuring PGA golfers since 2009's final Buick Open at Warwick Hills.

We nearly got a primetime event with Rickie Fowler and Rory McIlroy this summer at Detroit Golf Club, but that fell through.

Oakland Hills made a formal pitch to the USGA, requesting a US Open, but the tournament's schedule is booked through 2026. That can't be changed, but when the next group of courses are named, it's time for the world's best professional golfers to return to Michigan.
