(WXYZ) — Football cards are hard to find at retail outlets like Target and Wal-Mart. It's been that way for months.

Same goes for basketball cards and certain baseball and hockey cards. Heck, are you looking for the new Star Wars cards at Target? Good luck.

A few factors have contributed to the boom in the trading card industry. We've covered it throughout 2020 and into 2021. The pandemic has people at home, uncovering old collections, looking for new investments, and finding a rediscovered love for the hobby. New-age investors and social media influencers have made investing in cards mainstream.

That being said, if you get your hands on a box of cards from a retail outlet, you're one of the lucky ones. Most get scooped up as soon as the shelf-stocker appears at the store.

We got our hands on a retail mega box of 2020 Panini Contenders football. In it, the odds state we should land an autograph card and two memorabilia cards. Of course, a hobby box (which costs over $600 this season) has better odds to land premier guys like Justin Herbert or Joe Burrow.

But opening cards is fun, regardless!

As soon as we opened it live on Facebook, collectors told us the interesting news about our break: when we pulled a card featuring Panini Rewards points, we landed what was a replacement for our autograph. The Panini Points are apparently uploaded to the company's site and exchanged for card(s).

We did get our two memorabilia cards, and a Joe Burrow insert. Check out the break in the video by clicking here, or below:
