(WXYZ) — Did the Lions almost have a different quarterback under center for the 2018 season?

It may have been a possibility, according to a new report in the Miami Herald that says the Dolphins coach inquired about trading for Matthew Stafford. However the report says any talks never progressed to an official offer.

The Detroit Free Press is also reporting Lions' General Manager Bob Quinn denied the Dolphins approached him about getting Stafford when their reporter asked him about the rumors during the NFL combine last month.

However, adding to the intrigue is the Miami Herald's reporting has their former coach Adam Gase personally approaching Lions' Head Coach Matt Patricia about the trade, and not talking with Quinn.

Stafford threw for 3,777 yards, while leading the Lions to a 6 and 10 season in 2018.
