Two Michigan State basketball players engaged in a fight with each other this morning inside the Nittany Lion Inn in State College, PA.
The Centre County Report, a student-run web site based in State College, circulated a series of tweets detailing an altercation between Adreian Payne and Branden Dawson that began with verbal sparring and escalated to a physical altercation.
The incident was confirmed by head coach Tom Izzo as he released the following statement this afternoon:
"A scuffle that began as two players needling each other resulted in a dented wall. We'll deal with this appropriately, and the players will willingly accept responsibility for paying for any property damage. I've spent my entire afternoon meeting with the players involved and they are both sincerely remorseful. What makes matters even more confusing is that they are off-campus roommates. As a result of their actions neither one will start tonight's game."
The Spartans enter tonight's matchup with Penn State with a 14-3 record.
