NHL players from metro Detroit are gathering for the second annual 'Play With Purpose' game at USA Hockey Arena.

The event is in honor of the late Mitchel Kiefer, and is raising awareness to end distracted driving.

Kiefer, a graduate of Novi Catholic Central, was killed by a distracted driver in 2016.

Columbus Blue Jackets star and Grosse Pointe native Zach Werenski joined WXYZ in-studio with a group of the game's organizers to spread the word about the day.

'Play With Purpose' will drop the puck on Saturday, Aug. 11 at 4 PM. Tickets are available at the door, and donations are encouraged.

The Kiefer Foundation aims to combat distracted driving through its “Eyes on the Road, Hands on the Wheel” campaign by encouraging drivers to take a more active role in increasing the number of distraction-free drivers on the road.
