(WXYZ) — On this day in Detroit Red Wings history, Darren McCarty scored the game-winning goal to clinch the Stanley Cup.

McCarty talked with WXYZ about that unforgettable day.

"June 7, 1997 was like Christmas Day on steroids," he said. "I woke up in the morning and was like, 'We're gonna win the Stanley Cup.'"
