Roger Penske is once again adding to his racing portfolio as Team Penske is partnering with Acura to run a Prototype effort for the 2018 IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season.

The team will run two new Acura ARX-05 Daytona Prototype International (DPi) entries beginning next year at the Rolex 24 at Dayton in January.

The Acura ARX-05 Daytona Prototype has yet to be tested, but it's expected testing will begin at Monterey Car Week in August.

We are excited to join forces with the Honda Performance Development family and represent the Acura brand with two prototypes starting in 2018,” Penske said in a release. “Sports car racing has been an integral part of Team Penske’s heritage."

Penske already has teams in NASCAR with two cars and IndyCar with four cars. He also runs a car in the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship.

According to IMSA, Team Penske was last in the series from 2005-2009 where they won P2 class championships in the American Le Mans Series between 2006 and 2008.
