DETROIT (WXYZ) -- If there is any such thing as a basketball gene, University of Detroit Mercy guard Rosanna Reynolds has it.

“I’ve been playing basketball when I was a wrong girl. my mom played at University of Michigan Dearborn and my dad played in high school and throughout college," explained the Canton native.

That basketball gene -- combined with an enormous amount of hard work -- has landed her at UDM as one of the best to ever play here.

"I had no idea that all this would happen. I came here knowing I had a chance to play but I had no idea - 5 years later - this would be happening that I would be breaking records and stuff like that so it’s really cool to see how much hard work pays off," said Reynolds.

"She has over 1600 points, she’s over 500 rebounds, 500 assists. Not everyone can do that at this level so I think she’s definitely going to go down as one of the top players to play in the league," said her coach Bernard Scott.

All of the hard work that Reynolds -- or 'Rosie' as her teammates and coaches call her -- has put in at UDM culminates this weekend at Motor City Madness at Joe Louis Arena. This year's Horizon League tournament is her chance to walk away from the school as a champion.

"We haven’t won a championship in 20 years and the fact that this is my last go around so the minute we lose….that’s the end of my time here," said Reynolds.

The entire Titans team believes they have a real chance to win the whole thing.

"We’ve beaten everyone in the league, we believe we can beat anyone we go up against," said Coach Scott.

A Horizon League tournament title is the goal, but even if they get there this is still the end of Reynold's career as a UDM Titan. She's set herself up with some pretty attractive options for what comes next.

"Either I have the opportunity to go overseas or I join the real world and work as an accountant. I already have a job offer lined up with that," explained Reynolds.

Coach Scott doesn't think it will come to that.

"She’s a very good player so she’s going to play somewhere if she wants to," said Scott.

The Titans play their first Motor City Madness game Sunday at noon against Cleveland State.
