One of the stars of the U.S. Women's National Team suffered a major injury during a training session on Thursday.

Midfielder Megan Rapinoe tore her ACL in her right knee during training in Honolulu, Hawaii before a victory tour game against Trinidad & Tobago on Sunday.

Rapinoe, 30, will return to her home in Seattle to prepare for surgery.

“I want to thank my teammates and the staff for the amazing support I’ve received so far,” Rapinoe in a statement. “I know I’ll be in the best of hands moving forward and I’ll be doing everything I can to get healthy as soon as possible. "

This isn't the first time she has dealt with an ACL injury. She tore her ACL in her left knee twice in college before starting her professional career.

Rapinoe played a major role in the women's national teams' quest for the 2015 World Cup. She was one of 10 finalists for the 2015 FIFA Women's World Player of the Year and she also scored two goals in the first game against Australia.

"I want everyone to know that I’ll be fine, and that I’m currently accepting any recommendations for TV shows to binge watch and great restaurants that deliver in Seattle," she added. "I’m also going to get really good at FIFA 16.”

"All of our hearts feel for Megan and she's certainly a major part of this team, both on and off the field, so to see her go down is tough," U.S. head coach Jill Ellis said in a statement. "Megan has a great support system and she's very resilient, so we know she will be back as soon as possible."

Rapinoe has 31 goals in her 113 appearances for the U.S., according to U.S. Soccer.

The USWNT is currently on their victory tour following their world cup championship. The next major event they will play in is the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro.

They will compete against seven other teams in the 2016 CONCACAF Olympic Qualifying Championship in February.

The team will be in a group with three other teams. The top two finishers of each group will continue on in a semifinal game, with the winners of the semifinal matches qualifying for the Olympics.

The U.S. will be joined by Canada and Mexico which get automatic berths into the tournament, along with three nations from the Caribbean and two from Central America.

Rapinoe's injury comes just eight months before the Rio Olympics which take place from Aug. 3 to Aug. 20.
