(WXYZ) — Metro Detroit is going after the record today but it won't last long. As we're typing this article, a cold front is bearing down on Michigan bringing a 25° drop and the threat of severe weather. The good news is that the storms are not expected to arrive until this evening for most locations, which should give us a quiet Summer like afternoon. The exception will be areas north of M-59 and around I-69, will storms will get going sooner.
Storms on the Way
Storms will eventually reset the atmosphere taking temps back into the 60s for highs and lows in the 40s. Before we get back to Fall weather, we'll have some storms to get through first. This slow moving cold front will bring a few rounds of heavy rain to Metro Detroit with the first round being strong to severe.
Flooding is a Concern as Well
Since we are talking about multiple rounds of storms with heavy rain. Flooding is a concern with rain potential as high as 3" in some spots of Metro Detroit - especially north of the city along the M-59 corridor.
Life Behind the Front
Temperatures will drop by 25° as early as Wednesday evening and there doesn't appear to be any major warm ups expected going into mid October.
