The Black Student Union at Schoolcraft Community College in Livonia is hosting its very first Black history month tribute in the form of a 70’s themed speakeasy.

This is the first time an event of this kind has been held on Schoolcraft’s campus.

During this event, Schoolcraft students will showcase various talents in celebration of Black culture. To spice things up, the event location will even be decorated to set the mood of an underground 70’s club. This event will be held on Schoolcraft’s campus on Wednesday, February 26th, from six o’clock until eleven o’clock in the evening in the lower level of the Vista Tech Center.

DeSean Knight, the president of the Black Student Union mentioned that “The Black Student Union wanted to come together to pay homage and give thanks to all the Black men and women who paved the way for all of us. Since we cannot travel back in time and express our gratitude in person to every individual freedom fighter and innovator, we thought that a love letter in the form of our own talent would be the best way to express our appreciation. Our speakeasy will be filled with amazing talent, delicious soul food, and lots of dancing. This will not only be the biggest event of the year at Schoolcraft College, this will be something you do not want to miss. We wanted something cool and lowkey and thus came our speakeasy titled, The Moon Room.”

The Black Student Union is an all inclusive group with over 40 members. They gather together to discuss upcoming events and talk about social issues that affect the community, specifically the Black community. They also talk about ways to improve things in the community. They gather together every Wednesday from twelve o’clock to three o’clock in the lower level of the Vista Tech Center. All are welcomed to their meetings and the doors are wide open to all people and all opinions.
