(WXYZ) — Restaurants in our area are doing their best to stay afloat while dine-in options are closed due to coronavirus.

If you place an order online for Big Boy— you now have the option to also donate to help feed a senior in need.

The goal at Big Boy is not only to help feed seniors, but help those working for the company— and those who might just want to score a good deal during tough times.

"We work for an iconic brand, but we are still that local mom and pop shop in all these communities," said Frank Alessandrini, director of training for Big Boy.

Headquartered in Warren, Big Boy is looking to make lots and lots of soup. The goal? To help Meals on Wheels feed seniors who are trying to quarantine.

"Our first donation was over $5,000 worth, over 1,400 pounds of soup," Alessandrini said.

Here’s how it works: First, pick your location— click “start order”.

Choose pickup or delivery.

When you add an item for your cart— you can choose "meals on wheels donation."

A $10 donation goes a long way – it will provide 20 cups of soup from Big Boy to a senior in need.

"Every dollar that our guests donate to help our seniors, we will match and continue to donate to Meals on Wheels through this hard time," Alessandrini said.

You can choose just to donate— but employees are hoping you’ll grab a bite to eat too.

Right now, Big Boy is allowing kids to eat free with a purchase of an adult entree.

They have set up an pantry— to allow people to order food that might be out at the grocery store.

And if you do order from the store— delivery is free.

"Right now, during these tough times, we are doing a free, no additional charge delivery, and we are offering contactless delivery as well, so we will drop it off on your door," Alessandrini said.

Big Boy is also working to help its employees.

It's offering discounts on food— and is currently in the process of setting up programs to help them during these uncertain times.
