DETROIT (WXYZ) — The owner of Mighty Wing Shop on Detroit’s west side says they are not making as much money as they were before the pandemic, but he feels an obligation to stay open and help others.
“God blessing us, we're not closing, you know what I mean, we're good,” said owner Dennis Reed.
Mighty Wing Shop is known for their sweet and savory chicken and waffles. They also have an abundance of other food items.
Changes have been made inside the restaurant, including extra cleaning and less staff to help maintain social distancing.
“It’s a lot easier for people just to come in and then leave out, and then we clean out right behind them, like if they touch the doorknob we wiping it down,” said Reed.

When the state of Michigan first shutdown due to COVID-19, Reed was offering free breakfast for kids K-12. Now the focus is shifting to feed those working inside hospitals, including feeding overnight staff at Sinai-Grace Hospital.
“I have friends that work in the hospital. I have people that I know that was in the hospital and you have to take care of people that take care of you,” said Reed.
Mighty Wing Shop has changed their store hours during the dine-in ban.
They are now closed on Mondays, and open Tuesday though Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., and on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
