BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. (WXYZ) — A Bloomfield Hills Deli is doing its part to make sure hospital workers are being feed while providing food to loyal customers.

“The deli started 25 years ago, and it started out as a little carry out, and it has turned into a full blow restaurant,” said owner Joanne Hurwitz.

Steve’s Deli on Telegraph Road is staying open to fulfill carryout orders. This family run business is changing the way they make food, to make sure their customers are safe.

“We are making sure to follow every state mandate that has been put out by our governor, including gloves, masks, taking the temperatures of our employees daily,” said owner Alexandra Weitz.

Right now, Steve’s Deli is pairing up with FLAG Metro Detroit, Hero at Hospitals, and Feed the Frontline to fill catering orders at hospitals. Donations are made toward those three organizations, and the money is then used to buy the food from Steve’s Deli.

Donations have been made to multiple Beaumont locations including the Royal Oak and West Bloomfield.

“It has been truly rewarding in the sense of use trying to maintain and keep our business afloat, as well as helping others and feeding these that are fighting, those that are fighting against this right now,” said Weitz.

Any leftover food at the end of the night is also packaged to be donated to those on the frontlines.

Steve’s Deli is now operating under new hours during the coronavirus pandemic, daily from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
