The Queen of Soul is weighing in on the bankruptcy filing of her beloved Detroit.
Aretha Franklin released the following statement about the filing on Saturday:
We may be bankrupt monetarily, but we are well funded in spirit and what it takes to come back. And we come back every time. Detroit is a winner.
Between new and dynamic leadership with the big three, the private sector and a little help from DC, Detroit's best and most glorious days are still ahead.
Franklin was born in Memphis, Tennesse, but grew up in Detroit after her father, the Reverend C. L. Franklin, moved his family to the city and founded the New Bethel Baptist Church.
