(WXYZ) — Police across metro Detroit are increasing enforcement for drunk driving from now until the end of the year.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has officially kicked off its annual Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign. While the holidays pick up, and drinking does, too, more police will be on the road.
"We understand that during the holidays, people are busy checking items off their to-do list and attending parties," said Acting Police Chief Brian Bassett. "We need people to remember - it's up to them to make the smart decision to drive sober, not just during the holidays but all year long. Stay safe and stay sober on the roads."
A similar crackdown for Thanksgiving last month led to over 6,000 traffic stops – more than 150 drunk drivers were arrested across the state, according to Michigan State Police.
The enforcement period will run from Dec. 13 to Dec. 31.
