TAYLOR, Mich. (WXYZ) — A young mother and her son are killed. A 4-year-old daughter is on life support, and the lone survivor – the father – is dealing with immense pain.

A fire broke out in their house on Jackson Street in Taylor late Thursday night but it was the smoke, not the fire, that killed. The fire started in the basement and no foul play is suspected.

Twenty-three-year-old Abby Meisel was killed along with 2-year-old Colton. Another child, 4-year-old Luci, is at Children’s Hospital in Detroit. The family says 22-year-old Jacob Hance wants to spend Christmas with his daughter, and if she does not pull through a neighbor says the father may choose to donate her organs.

Friends and strangers hearing about this tragedy just before Christmas are donating the amount of money requested: $20,000 and more.
