(WXYZ) — We've already had the most tornadoes in the U.S. in a year since 2011, and we've had the most in the month of May since 2008 (460 reports).

The preliminary tornado tally for this year is already over 900, and is over 400 for the month of May.

The U.S. has averaged about 685 tornadoes per year in the last ten years, and averaged 252 in the month of May in that time.

We've had five tornadoes in Michigan so far in 2019. The average tornadoes per year in Michigan in the last ten years is 13.

With several more weeks left in severe weather season, make sure you have a plan in place in case of a tornado.
