"I was very scared. I was crying.. everything," said the 85-year-old woman as she talked about being mugged in the neighborhood she's lived in for 45 years.
The elderly woman and her loved ones talked to 7 Action News about her frightening ordeal that happened near 22nd Street and Walnut around 11:30 a.m. Monday, just after she left CVS in Wyandotte.
The woman, who only wants to be identified as "Aby" - a nickname from her grandchildren - had only walked a couple of blocks away from the busy store when a man suddenly approached her from behind and began ripping her purse off of her arm.
Aby's arm was sprained, but what broke her heart was that no one stopped to help her as she pleaded for drivers of several passing cars to stop and call police.
Without a phone or her purse, Aby walked the rest of the way home in tears.
It happened so fast, Aby was not able to get a good look at the thief, but she saw him drive off in a shiny black SUV.
Aby says she wondered why a man driving such a nice car would want what little money she had in her purse which was later found about a block away.
Thirty dollars had been taken, but also stolen was the sense of peace and security Aby had enjoyed for decades.
Anyone with any information is urged to call Wyandotte Police.
