The Macomb County Sheriff’s Office is investigating an attempted murder-suicide.

A woman is fighting to stay alive after a she told emergency dispatchers her husband shot her several times and then turned the gun on herself.

It happened Saturday night at Macomb Storage in New Haven off Main Street.

Residents heard the shots, like William Goward Sr., who was out walking his dog.

"I heard five rapid shots, it was three and then two right afterwards and I know it was gunfire,” said Goward.

Macomb County deputies tell 7 Action News, the woman called 911 and told dispatchers her husband shot her several times and then shot himself.  When deputies arrived, the man was dead and the woman was in critical condition.

Investigators have released the man’s name, 25 year-old Brandon Dodd.  They said both he and the woman are from New Baltimore.

Goward said it’s tragic to hear things like this, when this type of thing could be preventable. He hopes the woman is able to fully recover.

"Seems like there's always a way out. People need to talk to somebody, being war veteran myself, I mean, I know how emotions can ride, so God bless,” said Goward.
