Authorities have recovered the body of a 24-year-old man from Dawsons Millpond in Pontiac.
Oakland County Sheriff's Deputies responded to Dawsons Millpond in Beaudette Park Monday afternoon on a report of a drowning.
A witness on the scene stated that he and the victim went into the Clinton River, just downriver from the millpond, to gather items from the water. The victim began struggling in the water and yelling for help and the witness was unable to get to him due to the strong current, police say.
The witness attempted to reach the victim with a stick but was unsuccessful before the victim went under water.
According to Waterford Fire Chief John Lyman, the man was pulled from the water and he was transported by Star EMS to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The Oakland County Sheriff Dive Team along with Waterford Township Fire assisted in the recovery.
