An early morning fire in the city of Wayne is being investigated.

The fire department says two duplexes are destroyed after one of the units caught fire.

The fire happened on Glennwood and Venoy. Neighbors say they heard what sounded like gunshots.

Karen Bearden, who lives in one of the duplexes, said she was shaken up after noticing the house connected to hers was on fire.

"I heard big booms, like a bomb or something was going off," Bearden said.

Her daughter and three grandchildren were also in the home. Bearden said they had a hard time getting out.
The fire got out of control, spreading to the duplex next door. Investigators say there was significant damage to the garage. Michigan State Police are assisting and authorities are still looking into a cause.

The victims have started a GoFundMe.
