Thursday night the stage was set for Democratic candidates running for governor. Gretchen Whitmer, Shri Thanedar, and Abdul Ey-Sayed faced off in a debate.

A big topic for many Michiganders – roads. Something Whitmore has become known for through her campaign slogan.

“We need to fix the damn roads," Whitmore said. "We all know that we are paying to fix our cars and the state should be paying to fix the roads."

Thanedar had another idea to fix the roads.

“First of all, corporate giveaways. The corporate welfare... I’ll cut down corporate tax incentives,” Thanedar said.

There was also talk of health care in Michigan, with Ey-Sayed taking aim at the CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield.

“People like Dan Leap, the CEO of Blue Cross Blue Shield, make millions of dollars, $13 million dollars in fact and we don’t have health care, 600 thousand of our sisters and brothers don’t have it.”

The election will take place Aug. 7 to decide which Democrat will be elected.
