DETROIT, Mich. (WXYZ) — A single father of three is left without a home after a mysterious fire over this past holiday season.

Aziz Muhammad, his girlfriend and his three children were out to dinner on Dec. 22. When they got back, they saw the Detroit Fire Department battling a fire at their home on Cortland Street on Detroit's west side.

According to Muhammad's GoFundMe page, the fire began in the basement and spread to the kitchen, which was"completely destroyed." Along with the kitchen, sentimental family items were also lost in the fire. Muhammad, along with his girlfriend and three kids, are now staying with his parents.

"I want to not only just let them have their own space, I want to be able to teach mine in my own space, or bring them up in my own space," Muhammad said. "That's why I don't want ... I just want to have a place to stay."

The Detroit Fire Department have not found out what has caused the fire up to this point.

All proceeds from the family's GoFundMe will be used to find them a new place to live. To donate, click here.
