The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office has charged a Detroit father in connection to the homicide of his two-year-old daughter.
38-year-old Thomas Smith now faces new charges, after the Wayne County Medical Examiner reported the child's cause of death.
On February 11, officers responded to a 911 call to a home on Corbett Street. Officers found the two-year-old girl lying at the bottom of the stairs. The infant was taken to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead.
On February 14, Smith was charged with second degree child abuse.
The child's death was ruled to be a homicide as a result of abusive head trauma and blunt force trauma to her chest.
Smith previous charge of second degree child abuse has been dismissed. He now faces new charges of felony murder, torture and child abuse.
Smith is currently held at Wayne County Jail, and is due back in court on June 15.
