The four professional sports teams in Detroit are coming together and asking for your help to get the Michigan legislature to pass a bill allowing team logos on Michigan license plates.

Senate Bill 178 was introduced by State Sen. Jim Stamas in February and would allow the Detroit Red Wings, Detroit Pistons, Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions and Michigan International Speedway to put their official logos on license plates.

When a person chooses the plate, the money raised would support funds for each team, specified as the Detroit Red Wings Fund, Detroit Pistons Fund, Detroit Tigers Fund, Detroit Lions Fund and MIS Cares Fund.

All four of the teams tweeted Monday morning, asking residents to contact their state representative to vote for the bill in the Michigan House of Representatives. The tweets included photos of what the plates could look like

The bill was passed in the Michigan Senate in April with a 33-3 vote. It was then referred to the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure where it passed and is awaiting a full vote in the House.

The bill would have to be passed by Thursday or else it will wait until next year as the House goes on holiday break.
