Detroit teen gets probation for accidentally shooting, killing friend live on Instagram

The Detroit teen who pleaded guilty to accidentally shooting and killing his friend while live on Instagram was sentenced in Detroit court on Wednesday.

Dawone Cook, 18, was charged with a misdemeanor charge of careless discharge of a firearm causing death in the shooting of Dylan Hemphill. He was sentenced to probation and community service after pleading guilty.

Police say Cook and Hemphill were showing off weapons and Monday in a video on Instagram when Hemphill was accidentally shot in the head. Cook called 911 but Hemphill was pronounced dead at the scene.

During a sentencing hearing, the judge told Cook he was given a "golden opportunity."
