HURON TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WXYZ) — A Downriver community paid tribute Saturday to a father and his six-year-old son who were found dead after disappearing during a fishing trip on the Huron River in March.
First responders and search and rescue teams who recovered the bodies held the processional in honor of Justin and Jaxon Oaks.
Justin, 29, and his son Jaxon shared a love for hunting and fishing.
They were last reportedly seen launching their boat at the Downriver Marina on March 29 around 10:30 a.m. The last contact with Justin from his cell phone was at 12:35 p.m.
Their boat, a 14-foot Grumman Aluminum flat-bottom camouflage boat, was discovered later that week.
A fisherman discovered the body of Justin on April 13. Jaxon was found 11 days later by a family member.
A GoFundMe page created by the family, which you can get to by clicking here, has raised more than $31,000.
