A Fowlerville police officer was injured when shrapnel from his own bullet struck him in the leg.
Officers were responding to a call on a suicide attempt on April 29. When they arrived on the scene, the subject had already injured himself with a knife, according to a release by the Michigan State Police.
When officers attempted to provide aid, the man became combative and moved toward the officers with a knife. That's when the Fowlerville officer shot the man, who was then airlifted to University of Michigan Hospital where he underwent surgery.
The officer was treated for his injuries and said to be in good condition. The Fowlerville officer is currently on administrative leave until the investigation into the incident is complete.
